I had Christmas dinner at the Mains and thought it was great. I read the last review and think this is a one off as we have been eating at the Mains for the last 4 years since the last owners took over and I rate the place highly.

The service has always been pretty good and the food has always been above the rest. I can only think it was a new member of staff. The place is well talked about for all the right reasons and I am shocked to here someone review the place like that.

You should try and go back again. or speak to someone there as they are always real helpfull with any questions.

Still trying to fathom why this place is so busy....... Firstly part of our order wasn't put through their system and by the time the waiter realised his mistake the rest of our meals had arrived at the table! The fish I ordered was a tad on the skimpy side - in fact I think the fish must've been an anorexic in it's heyday - hardly any fish and over cooked batter! I've had better quality fish in one of those national pub chains in town for half the price (and that includes peas - Mains of Scotstown take note, 10 for almost fish and chips and no peas is a rip off!) We asked for a fillet steak cooked medium/well done but was more medium rare! My mistake was thinking that because the meals are quite pricey then this would be reflected in the quality of the food. The service on the night we were in was also quite amateurish. It's a shame as the interior of the restaurant is welcoming and of a high standard. On a more positive note the sticky toffee pudding (or sticky banoffee pudding!) is heavenly!!

Being relatively new to the area we only know abouth this place after we seen it advertised. Popped in one Sunday for a quick look, stayed for dinner. They have a very nice restaurant, good variety of food on offer and not one to break the bank either. Lounge bar was quite busy with a good atmosphere and a nice mix of people.
